Mike Phelan the current assistant manager of Sir Alex Ferguson will be in the Manchester United party when they visit Gibraltar on the 10th August to inaugurate the new premises of the local branch. He was promoted as Sir Alex’s assistant when Carlos Quiroz left to take over as the Portuguese National coach.

Mike was a United player between 1989 to 1994 having arrived from Norwich City for £750,000 making his debut against Arsenal on the 19/08/1989. He made a total of 102 appearances in the league, and a total of 146 appearances in all competitions.

He left Manchester United on the 30/06/94 on a free transfer to West Bromwich Albion.

Mike Phelan is personally well known to some committee members of the local Branch, as in one of their official trips to Old Trafford several members of the committee dined at the very popular Lincoln Restaurant in Manchester with the friendly Mike Phelan.
