Gib farewell from First Sea Lord
|
Admiral Sir Jonathon Band, the First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff, is visiting British Forces Gibraltar, accompanied by his wife, Lady Sarah Band. This is the Admiral’s farewell visit to Gibraltar shortly before he leaves the Navy on retirement.
On Sunday evening, Admiral and Lady Band attended a Sunset Ceremony at the Tower and on Monday morning, the First Sea Lord presented medals to four military personnel and a CBF Commendation to Mr Alfred Rovegno for his 38 years of loyal service with the MOD in Gibraltar.
‘I first visited the Rock as a Sea Cadet in 1966 and, since then, I have been back here many, many times,’ said Admiral Band. ‘The Navy has always been at the heart of Gibraltar.’
Later on Monday, Admiral Band unveiled a new grave register at the Trafalgar Cemetery. This register includes a diagram showing all the graves in the cemetery with a list of all who are buried there.
During their visit, Admiral and Lady Band will also visit the Gibraltar Squadron, the Clearance Diving Element and Windmill Hill Signal Station before they leave Gibraltar on this evening.
Happy retirement!
