Bossano off to address UN

The Leader of the Opposition Joe Bossano accompanied by Opposition member Fabian Picardo are travelling to New York today to address the Committee of 24 on Gibraltar?s decolonisation.
This year?s address will build on the discussions and results of the recent St Kitts Seminar. At St Kitts there was an indication that the changes in the British Virgin Islands? Constitution might in the case of this territory lead to its delisting.
There was also support for the need for the Committee of 24 to examine the constitutional changes in each of the remaining territories as part of its assessment of what has been achieved and how much is left to be done.
The presentation to the Committee of 24 will also expose the flaws in the twin pillars of the Spanish case. The address will explain to the Committee of 24 why neither the Treaty of Utrecht nor the concept of territorial integrity can replace in Gibraltar?s case the right to self determination.
Finally the Committee of 24 will be informed of the recent violations of Gibraltar?s sovereignty produced by Spanish incursions into our territorial waters.
During Mr Bossano?s absence from Gibraltar, Dr Joseph Garcia will act as Leader of the Opposition.
