Gib votes Conservative
followed by Labour and Lib Dem

In the Gibraltar voting the Conservative Party came first, followed by the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats. Other parties were well behind. The Conservative vote in Gibraltar was down from 70% at the European elections to around 50% on this occasion. The number of small parties took votes away from the bigger parties, hence reducing what the larger parties could have obtained if the smaller ones had not been contesting the election and had joined up with others. Of course, everyone is entitled to stand as a seperate party if that is their wish and they cannot be criticised for so doing. But win or lose, what was highlighted last night was the disappointing turnout of Gibraltar voters, which reflected a deal of apathy which does Gibraltar no good. The Gibraltar vote was only 35% representing 7166 voters out of over 20,000. *In Spain the turnout was 46% and with most votes counted the PP was ahead followed by the PSOE.
