FLIP students present their cheques to charity

The students participating in FLIP (Future Leaders in Philanthropy) Project presented their ?250 initial donations to local charities at an event held at Westside School.

Amongst the charities selected are: The Gibraltar Society for Cancer Relief; The Calpe House Charitable Trust; The Gibraltar Disability Society; St John?s Ambulance; The Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre; Research into Childhood Cancer; A Pathway through Pain; Gibraltar Branch of Cancer Research UK; The Down?s Syndrome Support Group Gibraltar; The Gibraltar Community Association; The Gibraltar Society for the Visually Impaired; The Gibraltar Dyslexia Support Group; Childline Gibraltar. Representatives of all the chosen charities were present at the ceremony.

FLIP student Francine Anes remarked, ?I chose the Calpe House Charitable Trust to receive my donation as they help a lot of patients and their families financially and with my donation they can hopefully invest in further development.?

Maxine Robba will be donating her ?250 to the Gibraltar Society for Cancer Relief because ?the Lady Williams Support Centre is a very warm environment where patients really consider their therapy treatments to be an effective source of pain relief?.

Another FLIP student, Nicholas Villalta, expressed his gratitude to the project organisers.

Speaking on behalf of the Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, Jamie Pratts commented, ?We thank the students for having our charity in mind and we?ll put this donation to good use.?

As well as donating money, all the students have been busy choosing a local charity for their research and fundraising projects, which will bring future significant benefits to the charities selected.
