The 10-year scene: Over 200 Moroccans acquire British nationality

by JOE GARCIA Over 200 Moroccans have been granted British nationality in the last ten years, PANORAMA has established through official sources. 104 have done so through naturalisation and 112 through registration, making a grand total of 216.
Excluding Moroccans, just over 300 other foreigners have also been granted British status in ten years. Topping this list are 118 Indians followed by 84 Spaniards.
Including the Moroccans, the grand list is topped as follows:

PANORAMA published a detailed analysis of naturalisations in our edition for last Tuesday, excluding Moroccans. Today we concentrate on Moroccans.
NATURALISATION
There are two avenues to obtain naturalisation under the relevant British Nationality Act. As already stated, a total of 104 Moroccans have acquired British nationality by naturalisation.
Under Section 18(1), 68 Moroccans have done so. This section states: "If, on an application for naturalisation as a [Fl British overseas territories citizen] made by a person of full age and capacity, the Secretary of State is satisfied that the applicant fulfils the requirements of Schedule 1 for naturalisation as such a citizen
under this subsection, he may, if he thinks fit, grant to him a certificate of naturalisation as such a citizen."
The other avenue to naturalisation is under Section 18(2) under which 36 Moroccans have acquired naturalisation. This Section states:

"If, on an application for naturalisation as a [Fl British overseas territories citizen] made by a person of full age and capacity who on the date of the application is married to such a citizen, [F2 or is the civil partner of such a citizen] the Secretary of State is satisfied that the applicant fulfils the requirements of Schedule 1 for naturalisation as such a citizen under this subsection, he may, if he thinks fit, grant to him a certificate of naturalisation as such a citizen."
Thus, 68 through one section and 36 through the other, a total of 104 naturalisations have taken place in the last ten years in respect of Moroccans. REGISTRATION As regards registrations, the total number is 112 of which 110 have done so by Birth or Adoption and two under Registration of Minors. In total, acquisitions of British nationality by Moroccans are 104 by Naturalisation and 112 by Registration, making the grand total of 216.
