Over 300 persons granted naturalisation in Gibraltar

? Over 80 were Spanish

Over 300 foreigners, excluding Moroccans, have ben granted naturalisation in Gibraltar in the last ten years, according to latest information. Over 100 were Indian and eighty-four were Spanish.

There were 24 in total in 1988. Two were British subjects, another two were British Nationals Overseas and another was a British Overseas citizen.

Also in the list were 8 Indian, 8 Spanish, a Philipino and a Venezuelan.

In 1999 there were eleven. One was a British subject, another was a Russian, 4 were Indian, two Portuguese and three were Spanish.

In 2000, the total number was 21, being made up of 12 Indian, 4 Spanish, 3 Portuguese, and a Brazilian and French national.

The next year, 2001, there were 40 cases, with Spanish topping the list at 21. There were also 8 Indian, 3 American and a Stateless person. Also one each: British subject, Chinese, Czech, New Zealander, Nigerian, Portuguese, and Polish.

On to 2002 when the total was 19. Six were Spanish, 4 Indian, 3 Portuguese, 2 Brazilian, and one each British overseas citizen, French, Italian and Malaysian.

The total number of naturalisations for 2003 was 37. Topping the list were 14 Indian followed by 11 Spanish. There were also two Americans followed by one each: Brazilian, British National Overseas, British overseas citizen, Chinese, Colombian, French, German, Irish, Pakistani and Sri Lankan.

The following year, 2004, there were 41 cases. As many as 21 were Indian, then there were 4 Spanish, 3 British national overseas, 2 Egyptian, 2 Portuguese, and one each: American, Argentinian, Brazilian, Israeli, Mexican, New Zealander, Romanian, Russian and South African.

On to 2005 when the total number of naturalisations was 15. Six were Indian, two Israeli and one each: Estonian, French, Maltese, Russian, South African, and Sri Lankan.

In 2006 there were 36. There were 16 Indian, 4 Spanish, 3 Russian, 2 American, and one each: British National Overseas, German, Hungarian, Israeli, Lebanese,Mexican, Lebanese, Pakistani, Philipino, and Venezuelan.

On to 2007 when the total number was 30. There were 14 Indian, 4 Spanish, 2 Bangladeshi and one each: American, Algerian, Australian, Brazilian, German, Mongolian, Philipino, Poland, Romanian and South Korean.

Last year the total number was 30. Eight were Indian, 5 were Portuguese, 4 Canadian, 3 Spanish, 2 Russian, 2 Argentinian, and one each: Bulgarian, Dutch, Nepalese, Pakistani, Polish and Turkish.

So far this year one person has applied for naturalisation and this has been granted: A Venezuelan.
