Boat berths foe others, but not for us
|
The Small Boat Owners Association is extremely disappointed to learn that the Government continues to make available sites for others to berth their boats at the same time as we are told that there are no sites available for ourselves.
The Committee understand that an area behind the former MOD Medical Centre has been designated for the use of the Royal Gibraltar Yacht Club who have had temporary berths constructed there for their boats. These berths have been created over the last few weeks by driving pylons into the ground and then providing pontoons on which small boats have been berthed.
It is not acceptable that berths should be found so quickly in order to accommodate and reprovision the Yacht Club and yet many small boat users have been waiting for years to be relocated. Indeed, there are about fifty boats on land at the moment because there is no berth for them in addition to a huge waiting list from many others who are also waiting for a berth.
The Committee of the Small Boat Owners call on the Government to keep their election promise to find berths for our boats. The process is taking too long and at the moment there is little contact with the Government because they refuse to meet with all the representatives of the owners.
"At the moment the indicators are that if we want a quick berth for our boats then what we should do is join the Yacht Club," said a spokesman.
