Former Minister Reggie Valarino dies

Medical practitioner and politician Dr Reggie Valarino died at the weekend. He was 67. He had been in medical practice since 1967 and was first elected to Parliament in 1976. He was a minister with the AACR.

He had been a member of a number of public committees. From 1994 to 1996 he was chairman of the Gibraltar branch of the European Movement.

He was also regional representative of the British Islands and Mediterranean Region of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. He attended CPA plenary conferences in places such as Isle of Man, Malaysia, and India. He also attended regional conferences.

He was a past secretary of the British Medical Association (Gibraltar branch) and Life President of the Gibraltar Hockey Association.

Reggie, as most people called him, had a big heart and was always keen to lend a helping hand.

The Cathedral of St Mary the Crowned was filled to capacity on Saturday afternoon for his funeral mass. May he rest in peace.
