From Ocean Village to Eastside via MidTown

Shadow Minister with responsibility for Planning and Heritage Dr Joseph Garcia will ask Government whether planning permission has been granted for the full demolition of Lind House and Mount Barbary at the meeting of Parliament next week. Dr Garcia has tabled a number of questions on development and planning issues.
Dr Garcia will ask Government to say whether planning permission has been granted to Ocean Village for the construction of luxury villas and apartments in the area of Marina Bay/Shepherd?s Marina. He will also want to know whether Government has received any indication from the developers of Ocean Village as to whether or not they intend to proceed with the construction of the third tower block located in the area of the Ford garage at the Waterport roundabout.
In relation to the Mid-Town project, Dr Garcia will ask when the construction of the luxury residential and commercial development is expected to commence. He has also tabled a question to establish what changes to the original approved scheme in respect of the East Side project have been requested by the developers and approved. Dr Garcia will also want to know whether there has been any increase in the cost to the taxpayer in respect of the developments at Rosia Tanks or Cumberland Terraces or whether Government had to extend any banking or other financial facilities to the contractor.
Dr Garcia will also raise a number of issues in his capacity as Shadow Minister for the Port and Civil Aviation. He will ask Government whether they have accepted any of the recommendations made to them in the report into the New Flame accident. Dr Garcia will press Government to say when they ordered an upgraded Vessel Traffic Management and Information System (VTS) for the Port, at what cost, and when they expect it to be fully operational. The Opposition spokesman will also want to know whether there was any damage caused at the small boats marina in Coaling Island during the severe storms of last year.
On aviation matters, Dr Garcia will ask Government to say when they intend to publish the plans of the Civil Air Terminal referred to in the Civil Aviation Act 2009. He will also want to know whether Andalus airline has now formally applied or notified the Director of Civil Aviation of their intention to operate the route between Gibraltar and Madrid.
On other matters, Dr Garcia will ask Government to say on what date the handover of the Garrison Library was last discussed either with the Ministry of Defence or the trustees. The Liberal leader will also ask Government to say how many infraction proceedings against the UK are currently open for the non-transposition of EU directives in Gibraltar. He will also want to know the communications between Gibraltar and Spain that were made through the UK post-box in 2008 showing the issuing and the receiving authority.
