Boats problem sails into Parliament
|
Shadow Minister for Sport and Leisure Gilbert Licudi will ask why the Government has failed to find a solution to the problem of the boats which were berthed at the old reporting berth when Parliament meets for questions next week. Mr Licudi has tabled a number of questions on the subject.
He will also ask Government to say why it felt that it was either necessary or appropriate to give the boat owners in question only 48 hours to remove their boats. On the same subject, Mr Licudi will press Government to say why it refused to meet with the committee of boat owners to find a solution to the problem of the boats which were berthed at the reporting berth. He will also want to know when a solution will be found to the problems faced by boat owners whose boats have been on land since the berthing facilities at Western Beach became unavailable.
In his capacity as Shadow Employment Minister, Mr Licudi has tabled a question to establish what measures the Government will take as a result of the recommendation of the jury hearing the inquest into the death of a worker at Waterport Terraces that the health and safety inspectorate be strengthened. He will also ask Government to state at what stage is the review on health and safety which it announced in April 2008.
On traffic matters, the Opposition spokesman will quiz Government on when it expects the works for the realignment and concreted protection of the approach road to Dudley Ward tunnel to commence. He will also want to know at what stage the tender process is in respect of this project. Mr Licudi will also ask when the replacement of bus shelters will commence and will request full details of maintenance or repair works to the bus shelters in the last six months.
On other matters, Mr Licudi will ask Government why it has removed the discretion of the industrial tribunal to award a basic award of greater than ?2000. He will also want to know the dates during December 2008 and since then that the disco at the King?s Bastion Leisure Centre has not been open.
