The missing flats

The condition and maintenance of the lifts at the tower blocks and Glacis Estate are among the issues that will be raised by Shadow Housing Minister Charles Bruzon when Parliament resumes for questions next week. This will be the first question-time of 2009.
Mr Bruzon will ask Government to state what plans are in place to enable the lifts at Constitution House and Referendum House to stop at all floors instead of an alternate floors. He will also ask Government to say what company, if any, has been contracted to carry out the maintenance of the lifts in Glacis Estate. Also in relation to Glacis, Mr Bruzon has tabled a question in order to establish who is responsible for the upkeep, in terms of cleaning, painting etc of the entrance areas and stairways of the two tower blocks.
The Shadow Housing Minister will also want to know with reference to the outstanding balance of 210 rental flats that are now not scheduled for construction opposite HMS Rooke, whether it is the intention of the Government to begin constructing these flats somewhere else within their current term in office.
Mr Bruzon will also raise the plight of homeless persons in Gibraltar. He will ask Government to state how many cases of applications for housing from homeless persons are currently being dealt with by the Housing Department. In addition to this, he will also ask Government to confirm if they have identified a property which could be used as a half-way house or shelter for homeless persons. He will also want to know how many Government dwellings are currently in the hands of Buildings and Works for refurbishment and will also press the Government as to their intentions regarding the 47 unoccupied dwellings with no work being done in them at present.
The Shadow Housing Minister will ask Government for the estimated dates of completion of Bayview Terraces, Cumberland Terraces, Nelson?s View and Waterport Terraces. In relation to Albert Risso House for senior citizens, Mr Bruzon will ask for completion dates and will also want to know how many parking spaces are being offered to residents and their visitors.
Charles Bruzon has also tabled a series of questions on the different housing waiting lists.
