Spanish Government accused of having made 'weak protest'

by PANORAMA reporter Take the bull by the horns, Zapatero urged The Spanish Government is being accused of having made a weak protest about the visit of Princess Anne to Gibraltar. It would seem that the Spanish Government cannot, or does not want, to react in the face of the provocations by Britain, says the Madrid daily ABC.
The paper mentions what they see as another provocation in the last few months, the eastide project which, according to them, the Gibraltar authorities are building on waters which are of Spanish sovereignty.
Spanish military sources have told the paper that Spain has been losing military and political weight in the Gibraltar area.
The Spanish Government only dared to describe the visit as 'inopportune', says ABC which is seen as a right-wing paper.
They also refer to the construction of a military health centre in territory not ceded under Utrecht.
It says that Cadiz MP Jose Ignacio Landaluce, who is from the PP, has urged Zapatero to 'get the bull by the horns'.
? It will be recalled that the Spanish Government itself said recently that the eastside project was 'a violation of Spanish sovereignty' as Gibraltar did not have territorial waters outside the internal port area.
