Small boat owners plan demonstration
|
The nine boat owners who have been told by the Government to move their boats from the area of the Port Reporting Berth were issued with letters by the Port Department on Tuesday instructing them that action was being taken by the Government to remove the vessels from were they are berthed.
However, after distributing the letters to the nine boat owners in question, the Port Department rung them up and asked for the letters back. The letters say that no vessel shall be moored within a designated area except under the authority of the Captain of the Port.
There are "Red Books" held by some of the owners of the vessels, issued and stamped by the Port Department which give the berth in question as "Reporting Berth".
One of the boat owners who had decided to move his boat from the reporting berth to Ocean Village has been told that the Government had instructed the company not to accept any of the boats in question not even if they paid.
Given this situation, the Committee of Small Boat owners is now considering whether to hold a seabourne demonstration in the area to coincide with the international boat show that is being planned. Further information will be given in due course.
