What about the Theatre Royal?

Shadow Minister for Culture Steven Linares will ask the Government to say whether they have now decided to proceed with the Theatre Royal project in its original site or to carry out this project elsewhere.

Mr Linares has tabled 41 questions for the Government to answer at the meeting of Parliament next week.

On the same subject, the Opposition spokesman will also ask whether the Government have now decided on the sort of consultation that will take place in relation to the Theatre Royal.

He has also tabled a series of questions on the Music Centre building in South Barrack Road which used to house BFBS. Mr Linares will ask Government to detail the terms of the license granted to the Music Centre or any other parties for the use of the old BFBS site. He will want Government to state whether the site was given to trustees on a lease or license and if not any of the two under what conditions it was given. Mr Linares will also ask the Government to list the conditions under which the trustees are to run the Music Centre.

In his capacity as Shadow Minister for Education, Steven Linares has tabled a number of questions for the Government to answer on a wide range of issues. He will ask how many pupils attended the Alternative Learning Centre in Bayside School and what the alternative is to an Alternative Learning Centre in Westside School. Mr Linares will also want to know the number of supply teachers that have been on that status for a given number of years. He will also want to know what the percentage attendance of school children is compared to the number of sessions offered in the academic year 2007/2008 with a breakdown by school and term.

Mr Linares has also tabled a number of questions in relation to his responsibility for Government Services. He will ask whether there has been any progress in the review of the Customs Department, when this will be completed and whether there have been any meetings in the past year between the Chief Minister and staff side representatives.

The Opposition spokesman will ask Government for details of the electricity bill for the Leisure Centre with a breakdown by facility including the ice-skating rink. He will also want to know how many power cuts there have been in Gibraltar, when these occurred and their duration.
