Spanish protest against working conditions of Spanish workers in Gibraltar
|
The associations representing Spanish workers in Gibraltar are staging a demonstration on the Spanish side of the frontier tomorrow. This will be to ask for better pensions and social security benefits as they apply in Spain.
The Ascteg and Citipeg associations have been distributing a leaflet in La Linea asking for support for the Spanish workers in Gibraltar. They speak of the problems 'suffered' by the workers.
Francisco Ponce of Citipeg said that "it appears that everyone is conscious of the problems we suffer."
It is not right, he added, that we should be working all our lives and that the pension should be under 250 euros per month, and that is why we are asking the Spanish government to give us a helping hand.?
They go on to say that their claim is not against Gibraltar or the Gibral-tarians, but for the Spanish government to find a solution, ?because we are grateful to have a job.?
The leaflet urges everyone in the Campo to come out to help the Spanish workers in Gibraltar who are said to need their help to defend their rights.
It says that help is required so that the workers in Gibraltar obtain a salary when they have an accident, are sick or females are pregnant...and that when they retire they obtain a just pension.
