Addressing issues that affect women
|
The aims of the Women's Branch Committee of Unite will be to examine situations faced by female workers in all Sectors in Gibraltar and therefore, provide information on laws, rights and how to ease/correct the situations currently encountered by female workers in all Sectors in Gibraltar so that working women and working mothers can balance work and family commitments, without having to sacrifice their careers due to family commitments.
The Committee adds that it will do its utmost, to develop policies to help address issues that affect women; it will work together with our Union Officers, towards achieving improved maternity rights, parental rights and paternity/maternity support provision at work, especially in the Private Sector. Discuss and tackle issues such as workplace bullying, harassment, intimidation, etc. To introduce flexible working hours and where possible ?working from home?, to ensure that children get the attention they deserve and help to eradicate the current outburst of unsocial behaviour, which has severely impacted out. To make sure that, in every Pay and Conditions Agreement signed by the T&G Section of Unite the Union, all the above issues are covered.
Another very important issue would also be to get the International Women?s Day, which is marked on 8 March every year, recognised in Gibraltar. It's a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women and the many battles fought and won by them.
Unites Women's Committee, will always aim in doing valuable work on behalf of our members and the community, they say.
