Dance Festival

The 6th Gibraltar Stage Dance Festival was organised by M.O. Productions and held at the John Mackintosh Hall, with over 240 dancers taking part.

The Festival itself was held over four sessions and was divided into seven categories: Modern & Classical Solo, Improvisation, Song & Dance, Duet, Trio and Group. These were then divided into four age ranges ? Baby, Children, Junior and Adult.

A very high standard was achieved over the three days, not only by the performers but also by the teachers from various local and international academies, through their choreographies.

An international adjudicator travelled from the United Kingdom to form part of the event and what a difficult task it must have been, looking at the quality of performances. Jacqueline Storey was responsible to give out the awards and bring across M.O. Productions main objective of participation, enjoyment and learning. This was very well achieved as Mrs Storey?s professionalism and experience came across very well to the audience, organisers and competitor?s alike, through her adjudication and constructive comments. Dancers were marked out of 100 marks with a main emphasis on presentation, interpretation, choreography, performance and technique.

On show throughout the festival was a combination of performances from both up-coming and experienced dancers. The audience was treated to a variety of dance styles ranging from modern jazz to classical, as well as enjoying a full spectrum of dance routines, choreographies, interpretation skills and strong performances from all competitors.

The adjudicator was requested to select 6 dancers from the 83 soloists to perform in the Gala Night in the Bursary for the M.O. Supreme Award. The 6 performers selected as follows: Nicole Victor, Miguel Martin, Gabriella Gilbert, Janice Felices, Simon Bolland and Jordan Picardo. The highest accolade of the festival, consisting of a shield, trophy and ?400 cheque was awarded to Jordan Picardo from the Gibraltar Academy of Dance as the most promising dancer.

Each first place winner received and aggregate trophy and the main awards of the evening were awarded as follows:

Best Male ? Simon Bolland

Best Female ? Nicole Victor

Best Choreographer ? Jade Federico for ?The Evacuation of the Gibraltarians? - a trio for Tyrone Yeo, Krystal Robba and Justine Federico.

M.O. Productions Supreme Award ? Jordan Picardo

Mrs Storey congratulated all the dancers and teachers for the overall high standards achieved over all categories at the festival. He also congratulated M.O. Productions for a very well organised Festival and is very sure will grow from strength to strength.
