Spanish politician unfurls Andalusian flag outside The Convent and claims Gibraltar

A candidate to the Spanish general election, arrived outside The Convent, unfurled the Andalusian flag and said Gibraltar should be recognised as Andalusian territory.

Jorge Romero is standing for the 'Coalicion Andalucista' to the Spanish parliament.

He thinks Gibraltar can retain an autonomous status integrated in Andalucia and benefit from the situation they have in the Campo. Their policy has always been that there should not be frontiers in Andalucia.

He has heard that Spanish workers in Gibraltar are discriminated against.

He is to hold a meeting with the Spanish workers associations. He says workers in Gibraltar should not have worse conditions than the rest of Spanish workers because they work on this side of the frontier, which he calls 'a fence'.

On 7 March he will join the demonstration planned by Spanish workers on the other side of the frontier.

Meanwhile, Sr Romero is also demanding that Gibraltar ceases to be a 'pirate port' so that all EU directives are complied with as regards maritime safety.

When he gets elected he says that one of his first actions will be to ask for the foreign minister and the environment minister to appear before parliament.

He wants them to give the pertinent explanations about "the crisis of the New Flame."

He said he was in Gibraltar 'exercising his right to freedom of expression'
