Customs zone and shopping area on the other side of the frontier

by PANORAMA reporter
The La Linea municipality is conscious of the potential offered by their closeness to Gibraltar, which is now heightened by the airport deal.

They have decided to go ahead with a major leisure/services area against the frontier fence, adjacent to the planned new air terminal.

Taking advantage of air traffic going to Spain, they plan to have a series of facilities in that area where the annual fair is held. The facilities include what they describe as a 'customs zone.'

Meanwhile, in another move, a shopping centre is being built all along the road linking the frontier to the centre of La Linea.

This shopping area has been named "El Bulevar" and will be surrounded by palm trees, while other decorations, such as fountains, will provide the right atmosphere for shoppers, they say.

They also say that the idea is to attract the tourism that daily crosses the Gibraltar frontier.

A series of modules will offer different goods and services on the revamped avenue linking La Linea with Gibraltar. They are thinking of souvernir shops, car hire offices, money exchange bureaux and goods ranging from textile to sport, and from computers to photographic equipment, as well as fast food and cafeterias.
