Shadow Minister for Trade, Industry, Tourism and Heritage Dr Joseph Garcia has tabled over 170 questions for the Government to answer at the meeting of Parliament which opens this week.
He will ask the Government to say how many EU directives are pending transposition in Gibraltar, and how many of these are overdue.
Dr Garcia will ask the Government to give the reason for the delay in the case of any overdue directives and he will also want to know what is the composition of the Whitehall/Gibraltar Tracking Group for EU compliance and when and where it last met. He will also want Government to list the 12 Conventions, 7 of which relate to anti-terrorism matters, that have not been extended to Gibraltar and the reasons why in each case.
PLANNING
In relation to his responsibilities for development and planning, Dr Garcia has tabled a series of questions on a number of projects. He will ask Government to provide the cost of moving the entities that were on the Anchorage site into the Victualling Yard. He will also want Government to say why a Development Aid license which was issued to King?s Wharf Ltd was cancelled and a new license issued.
The Liberal Leader will also ask what premium was paid by the Ocean Village group for the construction on water of the boardwalk site and the reclamation and construction of the site that the Casino will be moving into. He will also want Government to give the area in square metres in respect of which Queensway Quay The Sails paid the Government ?1,026,000.
The Opposition planning spokesman will ask Government to confirm whether planning permission has been granted to Gardens of Beauty (Gibraltar) Ltd to construct a block of apartments with gardens at 7 Europa Road. He will also want to know whether the application by ABCO International Ltd to build six luxury villas at Sir Herbert Miles Road has been approved.
Dr Garcia has tabled a series of questions on residential tenders awarded by the Government, including Lind House, the Upper and Lower Elms, and F Block. He has also tabled questions on two projects at Engineer Lane. He will ask the Government to say whether they are now in a position to provide the total legal costs in relation to the settlement that was arrived at with the owners of the Rosia Cottages.
AVIATION
Dr Garcia has also tabled a series of questions on civil aviation and airlines. He will ask Government whether there has been any contact between them and Easyjet after the announcement of the purchase of GB Airways, and whether flights to and from Gibraltar Airport will be covered by the plans to bring aviation into the EU?s Emissions Trading System. He has also tabled questions on heritage and tourism including the World Travel Market.
