PANORAMA poll was the most accurate
|
Other polls were predicting landslide victories for the GSD or the GSLP/Liberal Alliance for Thursday's election.
When the PANORAMA poll was published last Monday, it shocked the Rock when we predicted that it was a two-horse race and that the two main parties were running neck and neck. Our poll gave the Alliance 48.46%. They got 45%. It gave the GSD 47.56%. They got 49%.
When the election results came, they showed that the PANORAMA poll was the most accurate.
At the time of our poll, we said: "It follows that even a small swing one way or the other would bring about a clearer winner in the election itself."
The variance was just between 1.5% and 3%.
Not only that but we forecast that Montiel and Reyes were bottom of the GSD list. We also forecast that Netto would come second and Vinet third - that is what happened, but in reverse order.
And we also forecast that Balban, Randall and Chellaram were in the 'danger' zone. The three stayed out.
Our poll had again become the talk of the town, for being the most accurate opinion poll Gibraltar has ever known. It had been mighty close.
"It's been a very close thing," said Joe Bossano. The poll clearly identified where the GSLP obtains its traditional support, he added. This was in our results by polling areas.
Peter Caruana, for his part, said the PANORAMA poll had mobilised the block vote for the GSD and the GSLP/Liberals, squeezing out others.
Having chalked up so many success, the PANORAMA poll is the poll everyone waits for because of its track record.
