Call for Govt to implement SMOKING BAN

Following the total smoking ban in England, the Gibraltar Women's Association calls for Government to implement a smoking ban at the very least in enclosed public places here in Gibraltar.

"We believe that smoking and passive smoking directly and indirectly affect the health of our society. For example, asthma and broncitis are known to be common in our children, which has been proved to be aggravated by passive smoking," they say.

This might encourage people to give up smoking and thus make Gibraltar a healthier place to live in.

RAISE AGE LIMIT

"We are also concerned that the minimum age for purchasing tabacco has been regulated to 16. In our opinion the age limit should be raised to 18 as this should go someway to discourage youngsters from taking up this habit," said the womens association.
