Italian arrested in Sotogrande 'tried to contact parents of Madeleine '

UPDATED: Spanish police have arrested an Italian who could be linked to a case of extortion in the case of Madeleine McCann, said police.
The Italian was located in Sotogrande, a luxury housing complex, near Gibraltar, said police reports.
The police operation commenced at 5 in the morning , where a house was being searched, said people living in the area.
It was being claimed that the arrested person had tried to blackmail the girl's family to obtain money.
A Portuguese woman was also involved.
Spanish police confirmed that there had been an attempt to establish contact with the parents of Madeleine, the 4-year old girl allegedly abducted in the Algarve in Portugal to obtain the compensation offered for information.
Spanish police pointed at the pair being fraudsters.
Other sources said that the suspected male person was wanted by French police for possible implication in paedophilia, and the arrest followed an international search warrant
Portuguese police was also looking into it to establish if a link to Madeleine could be established. Italian and Spanish police were also continuing their investigations.
