Lourdes Lima gets Honoured Elder Award

The recipient of the Honoured Elder Award 2007 is Mrs Lourdes Lima.
The purpose of the Award, which was introduced in 2002 as part of the development of the Elderly Care Agency and which is organised in conjunction with the Rotary Club, is to give recognition to one elderly person in Gibraltar who has achieved something outstanding or exemplary despite any difficulties they may have due to their age.
The overall aim is threefold;
1. to motivate elderly people to retain or develop mental and/or physical activities;
2. to promote the concept that elders are capable of carrying out activities commonly associated with younger people;
3. to encourage others to support elderly people in such activities;
Mrs Lima has been chosen amongst other nominees for devoting her time to many charitable activities for the benefit of others. She actively supports the residents of Mount Alvernia, patients attending the Lady Williams Cancer Relief Centre, the users of the Day Centre for the Elderly, amongst other things.
The presentation of the award will be made by the Minister for Social Affairs, Yvette Del Agua, at a reception to be held in her honour at Mount Alvernia today Mrs Del Agua has described Mrs Lima as "a selfless and committed woman whose stamina, strength of spirit and dedication to others is an example to follow".
