First phase of Camp Bay works completed

The first phase of the refurbishment of Camp Bay was completed on Friday afternoon, in time with for the start of the Official bathing season.

The Minister with responsibility for Tourism, Joe Holliday, visited Camp Bay to attend the handover of the site by the contractor.

The year-round facility that has been created for residents and visitors alike is of the highest standard, said the tourist board. The works have included the shoring up of the sea walls, relaying of services infrastructure and a new concrete base. This has all been sealed by a layer of coloured composite material, that has transformed this very popular beach and play area.

The project had the objectives of enlarging the main pool so as to do away with the under-12 age restriction and allow access to all; providing a ramped access so as to allow persons with disabilities or people who could not negotiate steps to enjoy the pool; refurbishing the exiting toddlers and football play areas; increasing the number of picnic tables available; mproving the access points to the sea; protecting the beachfront from rocks by raising the sea wall; preserving the existing ?Dolphin statues? as they have been a characteristic of the beach; providing a cycle path for the Winter months. ?I am delighted with the finished product at Camp Bay, which will vastly improve this popular beach and play area, for all to enjoy. I now look forward to the commencement of Phase II of this project which will start in the autumn, after the bathing season comes to an end in September. Phase II will refurbish the lido area and the area south up to Little Bay?, said Mr Holliday.
