Getting things done: All at the same time!

Getting things done is one thing; getting things done, all at the same time, is something else.

Everyone is saying it. Gibraltar has become a building site. A visitor put it this way: I remember the wartime blitz in London and then the reconstruction period. Many areas had been destroyed and had to be rebuilt, like Gibraltar these days!

There may be something in that. From Marina Bay to those famous Rosia Tanks, it's one building site after another. And there are other sites in other directions. And soon the MidTown development will add to the Queensway area, with their high-rise twin towers and so on.

All this activity brings in its stride all those cement lorries and other lorries, and contraptions, causing chaos on our small, narrow, and limited roads.

And the potential threat to safety.

Then there is the noise, the pollution and all the many inconveniences everyone must put up with.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with construction works. But not when they all happen at the same time!

And this is not the end of the story. The old North Front area is now to receive the attention of builders, with the building of the airport terminal and the new road going all the way from the frontier to the Cross of sacrifice via Eastern Beach.

In Gibraltar it takes ages for a small stretch of road to be dealt with. Visualise what is in store - a road over one kilometre long started from scratch, a double carriageway in each direction, topped by multi-storey car parks - and even a tunnel!

All we need now is for the East Side project to get moving as well!
