The Chief Justice and the lawyers: Tale of the unexpected
|
There was an unexpected twist yesterday in the judicial saga concerning the four firms who had requested that the Chief Justice should recuse himself from cases involving them.
A joint statement said: The four firms have decided not to proceed, as previously intimated, with an application that the Chief Justice should withdraw generally from cases involving lawyers from those firms.
A group of lawyers had also delivered a letter to the Governor last Friday which reportedly stated that the situation was untenable.
What has happened between then and now?
According to the legal side of the dispute: The four law firms in question, and all the signatories of the memorandum to His Excellency, consider that it is of paramount importance that the Governor deals with the matter in accordance with his constitutional responsibilities.
