Most foreigners living in La Linea are British
|
According to date compiled by the national Institute of Statistics the population of La L?nea has risen by 6.3 per cent between 1996 and 2006. As of January 1 2006 there were 63,026 people living in the border town of whom 31,218 were men and 31,808 women.
This figure represented an increase over the previous year of 344 when the population was 62,682. Indeed the number of people living in La L?nea has increased year on year and in 2000 it had 59,828 residents and 60,565 in 2001. These figures represent the official number of residents according to the town hall census and normally the number of people living in a town is much higher.
This is specially so of foreign residents who do not register. None-the-less there were 3,000 foreigners officially living in La L?nea as of January 1 last year. Britons made up the largest group with 40.27 per cent of the total many of whom work in Gibraltar. The number of foreigners making La L?nea their home has steadily increased from 2,725 in 2005 and 2,151 in 2004.
