.Chichon to debut at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna

Local conductor Karel Mark Chichon will be making his debut in the most famous concert halls of all - the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna. The concert will take place on 16 February 2008. Following his 2008 debut Maestro Chichon has already been re-invited to perform in the Golden Hall again in January 2009.

The Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna is particularly famous for being the concert hall where the Vienna Philharmonic performs their annual New Year?s Concert on 1st January, which is transmitted live on TV throughout the world. The Golden Hall is revered for its unique acoustics and rich and imaginative decoration and the fact that it is the home to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Musikverein was built by the Society of Friends of Music which had been given the land by Emperor Franz Joseph. The building soon came to be known simply as the Musikverein, which in English means ?music club?. The Golden Hall is forty-eight metres long, nineteen metres wide, and eighteen metres high. It has 1,744 seats and standing room for 300 persons. Since 2001 the building has been undergoing renovation, and several new rehearsal and concert halls have been installed. Approximately 500 concerts per year attract music lovers from all over the world. However, the Musikverein is popular with the locals too - it is a Viennese institution and vital node of the city?s social life.

Maestro Chichon is said to be thrilled with this new development in his career. In a statement he mentioned ?All of the greatest conductors and soloists have performed in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein ? Karajan, Toscanini, Carlos Kleiber, Abbado, Pavarotti, Domingo, etc. In fact there is not one single great musician who has not performed in the Musikverein. How else could I feel other than immensely satisfied and proud of this, particularly since I will be performing there again in 2009. This means it will not be a once-in-a-lifetime single event but I can look forward to a consistent set of appearances in this wonderful and unique temple of music?
