Ambulance is "essential service"

The PDP says it notes the continuing dispute between ambulance crews and the Gibraltar Health Authority in relation to shift allowance payments.

"Clearly the ambulance workers are engaged in an essential service working long and sometimes unsociable hours. The service they provide is available at all times and by its very nature this must be so. They are in effect "shift workers" and their service should be recognised and valued as such," they say.

And add: It is of paramount importance that this essential service runs smoothly and without disruption. To that extent the PDP urges the staff and Union side to find a swift and amicable resolution to this dispute.

The Press release from the PDP comes after PANORAMA reported yesterday that the ambulance dispute is expected to escalate this week unless there is progress.
