Prisoner escapes into 'Jungle', says RGP
|
A prisoner being taken to Moorish Castle prison yesterday afternoon managed to escape.
The prisoner has been named by police as Tavieb Hussein, aged 22. He had appeared in court yesterday morning on robbery charges and was remanded in custody for a week.
As it was lunch time, the man was taken to the RGP headquarters. And at about 3.26pm he was put in a van for transportation to the prison.
But when taken off the police van near the Moorish castle, for him to be conveyed into prison, Hussein somehow escaped.
Police said they thought he may have dashed for the 'Jungle' area. "If seen by a member of the public he should not be approached," said a police spokesman. "The RGP should be called."
