'H' in the cave as part of National Week
|
The Ministry of Culture and Word of Mouth Concerts, in conjunction with Gibtelecom, say that Marillion singer Steve Hogarth will be performing at St Michael's Cave on Friday 9th September as part of the National Week celebrations.
Steve Hogarth, better known simply as "H", has been the lead singer with Marillion since 1989, having recorded a total of nine studio albums with them, including the critically-acclaimed and commercially successful "Brave", "Holidays In Eden" and "Marbles". Marillion are presently recording their fourteenth album but 'H' took time out from recording sessions last month, when he came to Gibraltar as a judge for the Miss Gibraltar pageant. He was quickly drawn to the attraction of St Michael's Cave, as well as Gibraltar as a whole.
Billed as "H Natural", this is no ordinary concert. Steve Hogarth will perform entirely solo, accompanied only by piano, in what promises to be a special, intimate performance of a wide range of material. Although the bulk of the songs will be unique interpretations of Hogarth-era Marillion tracks, there will also be songs from his own solo back catalogue and cover versions (probably including The Beatles and David Bowie). To assist with the intimate nature of the event, Steve Hogarth will also converse with the audience, reading excerpts from his tour diary and explaining the background to some of his songs.
Speaking about the concert, Minister for Culture Fabian Vinet said: "I happen to be somewhat biased because Marillion are my favourite band and Steve Hogarth is my favourite singer, but this concert will I believe be an extraordinary event for local music lovers. We are lucky to have been able to attract this talented vocalist to the Rock thanks to the support of Gibtelecom and I am confident that the unique nature of the concert itself, coupled with the unequalled venue of Saint Michael's Cave, will combine to create a truly wonderful experience."
The Ministry of Culture is hopeful that the concert will prove to be a success, since this will assist in making a full-blown Marillion concert in Gibraltar a reality next year.
