Down to earth?

Friends of the Earth, Gibraltar has expressed guarded optimism about the GSD Government's recent environmental pronouncements in the Budget and the House.

The group says it is pleased to hear the positive statements by the Minister but these intentions need to be turned into specific solid actions, enshrined in a definite plan.

FoE also emphasised that, in their view, a great deal more needs to be done by both Government and Community if Gibraltar is to develop a truly sustainable society. In particular, hard decisions need to be taken regarding such irreconcilable alternatives as an ever-expanding economy for Gibraltar on the one hand and a genuinely 'steady-state' durable ecology on the other.

FoE Co-ordinator Lyana Armstrong-Emery concluded by stating that her group looked forward to debating these issues further with the Government.
