Tourists spend ?200 million
|
Tourists spent just over ?200 million last year, according to a tourist office survey. But this is down 8.5% on 2004.
The survey suggests that over ?168m is spent by excursionists from Spain; ?18m by hotel visitors; ?14m by visitors in supplementary accommodation; ?7m by cruise visitors; over ?500,000 by transit visitors and last on the list ?354,000 from yacht visitors, which does not say much for all the fuss normally made about our yacht marinas on what they represent to the economy.
Spending by yacht visitors has been on a low for many years, and figures show no hope of it increasing.
In fact, the number of yacht calls are also going downhill, by 9% last year compared to 2004.
Number of coach arrivals are also down, by about a thousand fewer last year.
EXPENDITURE PER DAY
Excluding accommodation, the average amount spent per person per day is given as follows:
UK arrivals at hotels ?27.33.
Ex-Morocco arrivals at hotels ?19.00.
Ex-Spain arrivals at hotels ?34.94.
Cruise ship excursionist ?39.61.
Yacht visitors ?21.73.
Visitors in supplementary accommodation ?18,27.
