AA tells you how to drive to Gibraltar in Spain
|
The Automobile Association seems to think that Gibraltar is part of Spain. When people use their European router, that's where you go if you ask for Gibraltar.
PANORAMA was first alerted about this by a good friend of Gibraltar, who sent us an email saying that "a recent visit to the Automobile Association's Web Site ( www.theaa.com/ ) and using their Europe Route Planner has found that the AA believe that Gibraltar is part of Spain!".
This was at he end of last month. Since then, the AA has been bombarded with protest emails.
Chris White, who had told us about it, added:For such a well known motoring organization it's amazing how they can get things so very wrong!
Now, another person has said: Have just written off a message of complaint in this regard to the AA myself. Let's hope a mass of such complaints will do the trick!
HORROR!
John Borda, of the Gibraltar Action Group, has lost no time in organising a fight-back. "It was with some horror that I was checking a route back home for a holiday, when, on the AA European route map it comes up with "Gibraltar (Spain)"!
He adds: While I have written to them myself to ask them to correct this highly offensive error, I have only received the standard response thus far.
So, he is urging everyone to send off a protest."I can only hope that sheer numbers will convince them that they have made a serious mistake. If you are an AA member, please let them know, as it will strengthen your argument. Please be polite and to the point. Their sister company, the RAC, does not make that mistake- Gibraltar is "Gibraltar (GI)".
