Bishop from Peru to preach in Gib

The Anglican Bishop of Peru, the Right Reverend William (Bill)Godfrey, will be preaching at the Sung Eucharist at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity next Sunday at 10.30 a.m.

Bishop Bill and his wife Judith are presently on furlough and are kindly breaking their holiday in Spain to join us for our Patronal festival.

After ordination he worked as parish priest in the Diocese of Southwell in England during which time he was briefly the Diocesan Ecumenical Officer. He then went to work in Southern America as a Missionary, sent out by the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (USPG), from 1986 ? 1988 as Rector and Archdeacon of Montevideo and Canon of Buenos Aires Cathedral. He became a bishop in 1987 firstly as Assistant Bishop of Argentina and Uruguay and then became the first bishop of the new Diocese of Uruguay. After 10 years there he was appointed Bishop of Peru, the position he holds at present.

"We are very much looking forward to welcoming them and hearing more about their life and witness. We will also be looking at the possibility of developing links, through USPG, with and our Archdeaconry and the Diocese of Peru," said the Dean, Alan Woods.
