Union call one-hour stoppage
|
The shop stewards of Buildings and Works together with the Union Officials have met to discuss the ongoing situation, following the two hour stoppage last week.
The TGWU/ACTS "will continue with the industrial action in pursuance of our right to seek from the government the compliance of the 1998 Minimum Manning Level Agreement."
The agreement established a complement of 189 employees plus 20 who were transferred from the Warden Section. This made up a total of 209 employees. The current number of industrial employees at the moment is 167. As such there is a staff shortage of 42 employees. Our previous figure of 51 shortages was given to us by Senior Management. The numbers are constantly changing, with staff retiring and leaving the department.
The compliance of this agreement is fundamental as it creates job opportunities for young and not so young to apply for secure employment. Government must fill these vacancies to establish the agreed complement. This is the real issue, the Union said
And added As stated we will continue with our industrial action. We will be staging another 1 hour stoppage on Thursday, 23th May between 10.00a.m. to 11.00a.m.
As usual we are willing to sit down with government to discuss this and other issues.
