Diplomatic activity yesterday was at fever pitch between Gibraltar, London and possibly Brussels after the Spanish Government announced that frontier workers are to be issued with Spanish passes that will allow them faster access across the frontier. A scheme that includes Spanish and other workers in Gibraltar, but resident in Spain, who will also qualify it seems, as well as workers in Spain but resident in Gibraltar.

Had the EU upheld the Spanish contention that the blocks etc are illegal, can anyone imagine the fuss the Spanish Government would have made of it? They would have given 24 hours to remove the blocks - or else they would take action themselves on behalf of the EU!
